Our opponents currently lie 4th in the League table on 65 points, while KCs are 6th with 50 points – so we have a challenge to overcome this Saturday! Newcastle RFC. have become one of our league’s most successful teams following 2 years of hard work. Finishing 3rd in the Counties 1 league in 23/24, they narrowly missed out on promotion.
In September Newcastle started with 2 wins – away at Willenhall 20-23 and at home against Veseyans 43-8. They then lost away- narrowly – at Burntwood 23-21. In October they drew at Wolverhampton 26-26, enjoyed a big home victory over Telford Hornets 48-19, won at Shrewsbury 31-43 and beat Spartans ( Midlands) 34-12.
In November at Stafford Newcastle won 10-38 but then lost at home to league leaders Sutton Coldfield 20-24. The next two games were lost:- Newport away 33-6 and Veseyans away 30-22 (sweet revenge for the home team). Last match before Christmas was a big home win over Wolverhampton 43-10, followed in January by another win over Shrewsbury this time by 5 points – 29-24.At the end of January Newcastle enjoyed a big home win over KCs 43-10. In February at Spartans they lost 41-28, then won twice – at home against Burntwood 21-10 and again at home against Stafford 46-21. They then lost away at Telford 45-35, at Sutton Coldfield 56-12 before securing a home victory over Newport 36-33 on March 8th.
So Newcastle are sitting above us in the table but anything can happen on the day – come on you Kidderminster boys!
