With both sides given a bye in the first round of the RFU Intermediate Cup, the two clubs arranged this friendly fixture in order to give their squads a run out before returning to league action next week.

Droitwich, newly promoted to Mids 2 West (S) after going unbeaten last season, had begun the new campaign last week with a comprehensive 73-10 win against Yardlieans and KC’s, missing a few players, knew that they might be in for a difficult afternoon. Nonetheless, they started brightly, putting together some fluent phases, but after ten minutes found themselves trailing by eight points as the visitors kicked a penalty and went over for a try.

Droitwich continued to have the upper hand and by the half hour mark had added two further tries, one converted, to extend their lead to 20-0 and although KC’s rallied as the interval approached they could find no way through.

Early in the second half Droitwich had a player yellow carded and the home side enjoyed a decent fifteen minute spell but again without reward and it was the visitors who scored next with another try. Flyhalf Sam Taylor did finally get KC’s on the scoreboard with a breakaway try but Droitwich hit back immediately with a converted try and followed up with two more to stretch their advantage to 46-5.As the final whistle approached the visitors pressed hard to take their points tally over the 50 mark, only for centre Chris May-Miller to run in a second long range consolation try for KC’s but they were well beaten on the day and Droitwich were comfortable winners.

KC’s return to Mids 2 West (N) action next Saturday when they travel to Walsall - KO 3.00 pm.
