Match Report
1st XV vs Dudley Kingswinford 2nd XV 4 September 2021
KC 56 DK 7

What a day for the club; 18 months since the last games at Marlpool Lane and there were two games at the same time.
KC came out of the blocks showing a statement of intent that they were going to run the ball at every opportunity. The KC backs looked sharper than we had seen for several years and put pressure on the DK team.
In the third minute of the game Tom Dalton opened the scoring with a swerving run from the DK 10 metre line which was converted by Jack O’Hagen. Soon after a good three quarter move with much inter-passing was finished off by Ryan Tiene, again converted by O’Hagan. The KC forwards were working well and a push over try was credited to Aaron Crawley.
DK were putting pressure on the KC team which was soaked up with good tackling and a series of penalties took them close to the KC line. KC re-gained possession passing the ball to full-back Sam Foster who burst through to score a 90 metre individual try converted by O’Hagan. DK then got the better of a forward exchange on the KC line and with an opportunist kick scored a converted try under the posts.
The second half was more of the same, both sides shuffling their players with replacements. Another KC move with much inter-passing eventually gave Tiene another try. DK came back into the game with a 20 minute session where both sides made ground and showed solid defence. KC were putting pressure on the DK line and the possession gave Tiene a walk over try. More KC pressure from the forwards regained possession for KC to give Dave Kane a try.
George Tildesley had been prominent with several penetrating runs and was rewarded when his 75 metre run yielded a try. KC had a penalty close to the DK line and good work by the forwards gave a second try to Aaron Crawley. KC won the ball near the half way line and Ryan Tiene galloped over to score his fourth try, unfortunately injuring his leg in the process.
A good first game of the season for KC with good contributions from all players particularly forwards with Morgan Maxwell, Simon Clarke and Lee Wilks prominent.
To complete a good day the 2nd XV beat Stourbridge Grasshoppers 31-19
