This was the best performance by KC this season despite the wet drizzly conditions which could have made handling a lottery. The team were superior in all aspects of the game and it all came together in the second half.
The first ten minutes were dominated by KC without getting any points on the board. The opening score came from a break by George Tildesley near the half way line and giving a well-timed pass to Ryan Tiene for him to make the last 25 metres to score; Tom Dalton with the conversion. The second try came after a move across the field involving Ryan Tiene, George Tildesley and finally George Lloyd Jones who sprinted forty metres to score, Tom Dalton again with the conversion. A feature of the KC team was the dominance of the forwards in both loose play and set piece. Good ball from the set scrums and line-outs provided the platform for the positive attacks from the backs. This coupled with another exhibition of solid defence kept Broadstreet rooted in their own half except for a couple of break outs. Alfie Smith, Harvey Kelsall and Scott Turner made solid individual runs and bolstered the defence. The first half closed with KC leading 14-0.
KC continued their dominance in the second half and made ground through the forwards, linking with the three-quarters for Tom Dalton to slice through and then convert his own try. KC strength in depth was apparent when Simon Clarke and Morgan Maxwell came on as replacements and were immediately noticed for vigorous runs. KC forward pressure was translated into another try when a quick feed to Chris Pinner was passed to Ryan Tiene who bullocked his way through the defence to score, Dalton again converting. The next KC score came when Tom Dalton cut through and passed to Ryan Tiene for him to coast through to score and complete his hat-trick of tries. Another forward move provided a platform for Ryan Wainwright to score a try with his direct brand of attack, converted by Tom Dalton.
Continuing the KC pressure the Tildesley brothers smartly combined for the next try, George picking up a loose ball and passing to Jim who made 35 metres to score, Tom Dalton adding the conversion. Another clever move came from a Chris Pinner chip over the defence and the speed of the supporting George Tildesley allowed him to dribble the ball and then gather to score; Dalton converting.
A pleasing feature of the game was the performance of the KC three-quarters with unselfish interpassing causing difficulties for the opposition; this certainly contributed to the number of tries scored in the second half. Chris Pinner and Ted Morgan whilst not scoring themselves were prominent in many of the exchanges. Overall, this KC performance was one of the best this season as they kept the pressure on throughout the game, earning eight tries and seven conversions and preventing Broadstreet scoring.
