- team must keep their concentration

KC 41 Leamington 27

The game started with Leamington showing their intention to run the ball at every occasion, testing the KC defence which proved its customary solid barricade.
After 15 minutes KC worked their way into the Leamington 22, from the possession Ted Morgan made a break with a lovely feint and passed to Tom Dalton for him to score a try and succeed with the conversion. Leamington made ground into the KC half and were successful with a penalty.
KC replied with a scrum on the Leamington 22, passing the ball through the three-quarters to Ted Morgan who with an elusive run, twisting his way through tackles, scored a good try. KC next score came when possession in the Leamington half allowed Hakeem Hussain to make a break, the ball was passed to Tom Dalton and fed onto prop Scott Turner for him to make the try; Dalton converting.
KC were playing well the set scrums and line-outs being even. The KC defence continued to hold firm, prominent with good tackles were Ted Morgan, Chris Pinner, Scott Turner and Hakeem Hussain.
Following the forwards gaining possession from a set scrum , Chris Pinner set the three-quarters going and full-back Jim Tildesley capped a good individual game when he joined the line and scored a well-earned try. This left the half-time score at 24-3 to Kidderminster.
KC looked as if they would walk away easily with this game when their possession in the Leamington 22 was spun along the line and Alfie Smith scored a good try.
The game changed possibly due to over confidence from KC and continued attack from the workman Leamington side who were keen on running the ball. Leamington then scored a converted try when they ran through the KC defence untroubled.
KC came back with an individual Ted Morgan try from the Leamington 22, Pinner was ruled successful with the conversion to the astonishment of the touch judges. Morgan was deservedly made man of the match. Another KC try came through a break by Hakeem Hussain and a 25 metre run passing to Ryan Tiene who made 20 metres to score. Tiene had made several good runs earlier in the game, his brute strength and direct line taking him through several defenders.
Leamington scored two more tries in the latter part of the game as KC lost concentration and deserved their bonus point for four tries. KC were fortunate that they had earned 26 point cushion from the first half and ran out worthy winners.
It was a good team performance, this was from both the forwards and the backs who combined to advantage. However, KC players must recognise that they need to shut down the opposition even when they look to have made the game safe.
