- good team performance

KC 33 – Bromsgrove 2nds 20
KC played Bromsgrove 2nds in their second league fixture of the season. From the start KC worked their way into the Bromsgrove half and although good defence from Bromsgrove were able to look dangerous.
KC had a set scrum close to the posts and Ryan Wainwright picked up, made a break and scored an unconverted try. More pressure through the forwards from KC yielded two penalties; the second of which was converted by Jack O’Hagan.
KC were strong in the set scrums, their front row with ex colt Jack Shepherd and the experienced Scott Turner both looking solid. By contrast Bromsgrove were on top in the line-outs particularly when throwing long.
At this point the game was coming to KC, however the players went to sleep allowing Bromsgrove to score a converted try from the KC 22 without being troubled by the defence. This reduced the KC lead to one point.
KC then put pressure onto Bromsgrove, gaining territory until earning a penalty close to the line, it was quickly taken and Man of the Match Scott Turner made ground with a low dive through opposition players to score a try. The first-half finished with KC having failed to convert their territorial advantage into points for a lead of only 13 -7.
Early in the second half penalties were awarded to both sides, Jack O’Hagan getting the points for KC, Bromsgrove also successful with their kick.
Bromsgrove defence was harder to crack in the second half and KC worked their way into the Bromsgrove 22, the ball was taken on by the backs and an unconverted try scored after good support play from Ryan Tiene backing up. The KC backs scored the next try from inside the Bromsgrove half. It started with Tom Dalton making a clever break, allowing Ryan Tiene to draw the defence and with a nice pass release Jim Tildesley to open up the defence and score a great try.
KC relaxed for a while allowing Bromsgrove to come back with their own pressure scoring a converted try and then gaining two penalties missing with the first and successful with the second attempt. With five minutes to go, pressure from Bromsgrove who were only 6 points behind had spectators fearing the worst.
Then KC produced the move of the match or even the season. Ted Morgan started a 70 metre move involving inter-passing between George Tildesley, Ryan Tiene and back to Tildesley to confound the defence.
KC need to ensure that they keep their concentration throughout future matches, this win was a good result for KC.
