KC 39 Telford 23
KC put on a good performance to celebrate the old / retired players day. The first KC try came from a fine example of inter-passing; a clever break by George Tildesley made 40 metres, he passed to Ryan Tiene who added 20 metres before passing back to Tildesley for him to score the try. Against the run of play Telford won a line-out in the KC 22 area and pushed over for a converted try.
Set scrums did not follow any pattern, sometimes KC had the upper hand and other times Telford would win the ball. Tom Kerrigan was notable in the line-outs, Harvey Kelsall showed his normal good tackling and was prominent in attack.
KC came back with another classic try, winning a line-out on the Telford 22 and spinning the ball down the line for Tiene to score in the corner. Good work by the KC forwards from a line-out and the busy Hakeem Hussain worked well to earn the try. A penalty to Telford reduced the KC lead at half-time to 15-10 which did not represent the territorial advantage that KC enjoyed in the first period, most of the play being in the Telford half.
After half-time Telford were more lively and were awarded another penalty which further reduced KC lead. At this point Telford were looking dangerous and the game was going backwards and forwards with neither side getting on top, respite for KC came with a penalty which was kicked by Harry Taft. After a lull KC got possession and kicked through from near the half-way line and the supporting Tiene was able to gather the ball and sprint to the line to score the bonus point try under the posts. Harry Taft made the conversion.
KC were now starting to dominate in all aspects of play, Tiene swooped onto a loose ball and made ground to get close to the line and pass to the grateful George Lloyd Jones who scored under the posts. Harry Taft made the conversion. KC backs earned the next try, Tom Dalton made a good break, passed to Harry Taft who gave the final pass to Ryan Tiene for his fourth try, Taft making the conversion. Dalton had a good game making several breaks when he showed good jinking moves to confuse the Telford defence. The backs were impressive in this game with regular support for the scorers.
KC having made the game safe then relaxed and lack of concentration allowed Telford to score two unconverted tries for the score to end up at KC 39 Telford 23.For the majority of the game KC put in a real good team effort which was paying dividends for most of the second half. They can be proud of the performance.
