A rejuvenated KC’s,afforded the rare luxury of having a larger squad of available players to select from,recorded their highest scoring win of the season by far with a twelve try demolition of a much changed Tamworth side to open up a thirteen point gap over next to bottom Old Salts and also climb above Newcastle (Staffs) into ninth spot in Mids 2 West (N) and give their chances of avoiding relegation a massive boost.
Having already missed a very presentable penalty opportunity KC’s opened the scoring with six minutes on the clock when possession from a ruck at the left corner eventually found hooker Ryan Wainwright loitering in space and his try was converted by fullback Rhys Pritchard.Four minutes later the lead was extended to 12-0 following an initial break by scrumhalf Freddie Morgan which was taken on by centre Ewan Thompson and then right wing James Barham who passed back inside to flyhalf Chris May-Miller and the No 10 crossed for a very nicely worked second try.

The frenetic start to the game continued when only three minutes later Tamworth hit back with a well finished try at the corner by their right wing Jimmy Carroll but on the twenty minute mark KC’s ran in their third try when good hands by Morgan and Pritchard fed left wing Ryan Tiene and a missed tackle enabled him to run round under the posts with Pritchard converting to open up a 19-5 advantage.

Straight from the re-start strong runs by No 8 Neil Mason and blindside Jess Smith who,together with flanker Mike Protheroe caused backrow mayhem all afternoon,had Tamworth in full retreat once again and then,working the short side,a slick pass by prop Ben Turner to Barham almost created another score but he was bundled into touch five metres out by a try saving tackle by Tamworth centre Ben Shorthouse who unfortunately was injured in the process and had to leave the field clearly badly concussed.When play resumed with a Tamworth lineout Kidder drove them back over their own line and the pack,in stark contrast to their travails at Spartans the previous week,walked the visitors back over their line again and Mason claimed the all important bonus point try with still only half an hour played.
With their tails now well and truly up another KC’s try soon followed when Barham capped some more good work down the right with a switch inside to Tiene,popping up on his opposite wing,who crossed to increase the lead to 29-5 and although a defiant Tamworth responded with another try at the right corner,this time by fullback Chris Lakin,the home side had the final say of an enthralling first half with a hat-trick try by Tiene to round off some excellent play by Smith and Protheroe and his touchdown wide out was superbly converted by Morgan,taking over the kicking duties,for an imposing 36-10 halftime lead.

After the break it took Kidder only two minutes to pick up where they had left off as Morgan fielded a Tamworth kick to spark a long range attack and the final pass to Tiene saw him easily round his man to run in his fourth try,again improved by Morgan, and two more tries quickly followed.Firstly,damaging surges by Mason and Smith set up rucks from which the ball went through the hands before Morgan touched down and added the extras to bring up the fifty points.Then,from the re-start Mason made a barnstorming forty metres or so to launch another dangerous attack and Tamworth were fortunate to dodge a yellow card when they prevented an almost certain score by knocking on a KC,s pass but the respite was brief as from the resulting scrum Thomson broke clear to touch down for the hosts’ ninth try.

For the next twenty minutes with the game done and dusted Kidder rather took their foot off the gas and when Carroll broke down the right from a quickly taken Tamworth tap penalty it took a fine tackle by Pritchard to prevent a try.However,in the last ten minutes the visitors were once more put to the sword as KC’s added three further tries,all converted by Morgan.Replacement centre Tom Maher sent in Tiene for a remarkable fifth try and then from lineout possession cleanly picked off the top by Protheroe,Maher himself cut through to score under the posts.Finally,right on the whistle youngster Barham benefited from some smart handling by Thompson and Pritchard to cross for a well deserved try which completed a quite breathtaking performance by the home side.
KC’s round off their season next week with a trip to Veseyans - KO 3.00 pm.
