Report provided by KC Press Secretary Martin Easton.....
The home side seized the initiative straight from the kick off and inside five minutes created a two man overlap when their fullback came into the line and crossed the whitewash with his right wing still available if needed. The lack of defensive cover looked ominous for KC’s but they were soon better organised although their cause was not helped when lock Matt Bennett hobbled off with an ankle injury.Sils continued to dominate territorially but were not able to break through again until the half hour mark when they won a scrum against the head forty metres out and ran in a converted try for a 12-0 lead.
KC’s had not threatened Sils’ try line but five minutes before the break they won a penalty some fifteen metres inside the hosts half and flyhalf Chris Pinner’s sweetly struck kick opened their account.
Only nine points behind,KC’s needed to start the second half well but again conceded within five minutes when lax defending allowed Sils to latch on to a hopeful kick and although Tom Maher got back to haul down the runner he was on his own and could do nothing to prevent the home side’s support touching down under the posts, the simple conversion giving them a 19-3 lead.To add to KC’s woes injured skipper Ben Turner was forced to leave the field but to their credit they raised their game and enjoyed their best spell of the match.A couple of penalties kicked to the corner and some quickly taken tap penalties put real pressure on the home side for the first time and Kidder were rewarded when replacement prop Matt Rigsby burrowed over for a try, well converted by Pinner,to cut the deficit to 19-10 but five minutes later they gave the ball away in their own 22 and Sils ran in a bonus point try.KC’s responded again when Rich Sollum and Maher combined to create a great opening for Rigsby but he was unable to take the final pass with the try line beckoning and the chance of a losing bonus point was gone.Deep into time added on KC’s were pushed off their own defensive scrum and Sils worked the narrow side for their fifth try to kill off the match.Kidder finished with a late flourish but were unable to add to their score and remain in ninth place in the table.
