Match Report KCRFC
Silhillians 6/10/2018
Chairman’s day proved ultimately successful for Kidderminster Carolians, but not after a brave fightback by an individually talented Silhillians’s side had nerves stretched at Marlpool Lane.
To stay unbeaten the Kidderminster side had to dig deep right to the very end of a match that provided great entertainment for neutral supporters.and. in places some brilliant attacking rugby.
As has been the pattern this season KC’S started with some good driving play which allowed the backs to look threatening .and it was only resolute last-ditch defence by the visitors that prevented some early scores.
Ten minutes into the game powerful back line defence allowed centre Rhys Pritchard to score an unconverted try for Kidderminster to take a 5-0 lead, this was quickly reduced to 5-3 with Sil’s scoring a penalty with their first foray into the home sides half.
Fly Half Freddie Morgan struck a penalty after 22 minutes to extend the lead to 8-3 and this was increased with a second try by the excellent Rhys Pritchard which was converted by Morgan on the 25th minute. Kidderminster were combining well in attack and scored a superb length of the field try from the restart with winger Kieran James finishing superbly. The conversion was kicked by Freddie Morgan and the score of 22-3 looked very ominous for the away side.
Sil’s proved that determination and individual work rate can be very effective and reduced the score with an unconverted try as half time approached.
The half time score of 22-8 to the home side looked relatively comfortable but the renewed determination by the visitors was rewarded with a converted try after excellent work by both forwards and backs allowed them to gain territory and set up an attacking position.
With the score at 22-15 KC’S were making increasing numbers of errors and although several chances were created lack of concentration and poor game management meant it was no surprise when Silhillians scored a converted try on the 64th minute to level the score at 22 all.
With all things seeming to go in their favour an increasingly confident away side took the lead in the 68th minute with a well struck penalty 22-25
A Freddie Morgan penalty drew things level but Carolians continued to frustrate home supporters and Sills looked to have secured an unlikely victory with a penalty in the 75th minute to lead 25-28.
Following several penalty kicks and some frantic attacking by the desperate home side Sils were reduced to 14 after a red card for their player who had previously been yellow carded, deliberately knocked down a scoring pass.
The final minutes saw the Kidderminster forwards take increasing control and were rewarded with a match winning try from Arthur Morgan which was unconverted to leave the final score at 30-28 to the home side who remain unbeaten despite falling well short in terms of performance in this game.
The Silhillians side were to be congratulated on their determination and excellent comeback, it is clear they have some excellent players and fine team spirit.
