Top of the league Kidderminster Carolians travelled to mid table Evesham with some foreboding expecting a tough game against a side who had clearly caused all teams in the league they had played, problems.
A great start however was testimony to the hard work and great spirit amongst this young side who scored after just a minute of the game when excellent ball was released to Ryan Tiene who showed both pace and agility to score from 25 metres out.
The conversion was missed and Evesham came into the game with good driving play from the forwards applying great pressure to the Carolians line.
A build up of penalties resulted in the referee awarding a yellow card to the powerful Tiene and with KC’S down to 14 Evesham levelled the scores with an unconverted try by their centre. The game was evenly contested at this point and the strong wind contributed to handling errors on a regular basis from both sides. Returning prop Joe Nicklin set up Matt Rigsby for a well taken try near the posts which was converted by Freddie Morgan for a 12- 5 lead to the away side. This was improved by Morgan with a penalty as half time approached and Kidderminster introduced a number of substitutions including the powerful veteran three-quarter Andy McLellan who added significant experience and ability to the Kidderminster backs.
Evesham added a penalty shortly after half time taking the score to 8-15 but this was the signal for Kidderminster to raise the power and intensity of their game and it wasn’t long before the excellent Andy McLellan scored a try converted by Freddie Morgan to extend Carolians lead to 22-8.The powerful Kidderminster scrum was causing the home side a lot of problems and it was no surprise in the 70th minute when Ryan Tiene added to his tally of tries and again converted by Freddie Morgan to take the score to 8- 29 going into the last ten minutes of the game with a bonus league point secured
Fitness has been a noticeable feature of The Kidderminster game and as the home side tired the Carolians stepped up the pace and Jack Tunstall scored after great approach work from the whole team, converted again by Freddie Morgan. In the dying minute of the game Rhys Pritchard showed great pace to score after superb handling from Morgan, McLellan and Lovell created space in the midfield, this again was converted with the last kick of the game by Freddie Morgan to leave the final score as 8- 41 to Kidderminster Carolians who now take a break from the league for a week with a cup fixture at home against Crewe and Nantwich kick off 2.15pm.
