Kidderminster Carolians entertained Nuneaton in their latest league fixture, KC’s kicked off with a strong wind at their backs and were quickly into their stride, a speculative kick by Nuneaton was gathered and fed to left wing Arthur Morgan, he rounded his opposite number and raced over from 30 yards out to score a try, the conversion failed, from the kick-off good field position was gained thanks to an excellent kick by Andy McLellan, the ball was turned over by KC’s and transferred to Arthur Morgan who scored under the posts the try was converted by Freddie Morgan to give Kidderminster a 12-0 lead.
An excellent 40 metre penalty kick by Freddie Morgan increased this lead to 15-0. With 20 minutes of the game gone a break by Rhys Pritchard opened up the visitors defence the movement was continued by Ryan Tiene eventually reaching Captain Mike Protheroe who raced in to score a try making the score 20-0. At this stage of the game Kidderminster were in a dominant position, with 30 minutes gone, following some fifteen phases of play Arthur Morgan popped up on the opposite wing to score his third try and ensure the bonus point was secured. The conversion failed. With half time approaching Nuneaton exerted some pressure at a five metre scrum and were awarded a penalty, this was quickly taken but lost in a tackle, another very good relieving kick by Andy McLellan took the play to the half way line and the whistle for half time went with Kidderminster leading by 25 points to nil.
Nuneaton kicked off the second half and the ball was knocked on by KC’s this produced 15 minutes of relentless pressure from the visitors who were rewarded with a try under the posts, the conversion was successful and the deficit reduced to 25-7. At this stage of the game, now playing into a strong wind, Kidderminster were finding it difficult to get into the opposition half, however their defence was so well organised that Nuneaton were not able to capitalise on their territorial advantage. With 12 minutes of the game remaining KC’s won turn over ball at the line-out inside their own half, the ball was swiftly transferred through several pairs of hands finally ending with Arthur Morgan scoring his fourth try wide out on the left increasing the score to 30-7. With minutes remaining Kidderminster won a scrum on their 22 metre line, this was picked up by No. 8 Rob Phillips, a couple of excellent inter passes before the ball was back with Phillips who raced 60 metres before being hauled down just short of the line, fast ball was provided from the ruck, a superb pass from Freddie Morgan to brother Arthur allowed him to score his fifth try of the game. The conversion failed, shortly after this the whistle blew for full time with the score at 35-7.
Although Arthur Morgan scored 5 tries this was another very good whole team performance with every member of the match day squad playing their part, congratulations to you all and also to the coaching team.
