KC's rack up the tries in front of a bumper Presidents Day crowd

10 tries in the sun keeps KC's hot on the heels of Old Laurentians with two games to go...

KC duly completed the double over a lively Leamington, their expansive high tempo play taking them to the victory in front of a good crowd on President’s day.

KC opened the scoring with a penalty converted by Freddie Morgan. Five minutes later Jess Smith picked up at the base of the scrum and powered over from close in, Freddie Morgan confidently kicked the conversion. From the restart a loose pass on the blind side allowed the Leamington left wing to intercept and run 40 metres for a solo try.

Kidderminster then put much pressure through the forwards and a Freddie Morgan break linked to Ryan Tiene who galloped in for a try. The backs combined for another try which was started by Chris Pinner, passed by Freddie Morgan back inside for Chris May-Miller to score under the posts. KC were unlucky not to get a further try when Tiene split the defence, however the referee ignored the advantage giving a penalty to KC. From this penalty work by the forwards took them deep into the Leamington 22 area and a good driving maul took them over, Jess Smith getting the try for the bonus point, Freddie Morgan converting.

Once again, the defence soaked up pressure when Leamington pressured for the last 5 minutes of the half, the game turning round at 29-7.
Kidderminster increased their lead from a penalty move, Pinner passing the second phase ball with a short pass to Andy McLellan who scored under the posts, Freddie Morgan succeeding with conversion. The forwards were playing well and their dominance was giving them field position, a good move through several players ended with Andy McLellan, playing like a wing forward to get his second try.
Next try came from a ball won by the forwards, passed through the backs to Tiene who coasted through from the Leamington 10 metre line to score. Good tackling by Leamington snuffed out several further promising KC moves. KC defence was tested and eventually cracked a second time, Leamington scored a deserving try close to the posts. They then scored another soft try when KC concentration wavered, both these tries were converted.

KC finished the game with the best try of all, a lovely move initiated by Chris May-Miller, onto Tiene who linked with Kieran James on the wing, who made good ground and passed back to Tiene for him to run in unchallenged for his second try.

This was a game where the forwards worked really well and particularly the front row who won several set scrums against the head. Credit must be given to the whole team for eliminating sloppy penalties from their game, instead making the ball available when they were stopped by the opposition.
