- another game played with good spirit

KCs produced another good team effort against a team with a heavier pack. The game began with KC putting pressure on the Worcester line. A chip from Andy McLellan was just too long to allow KC to score. The pressure earned KC a penalty on the Worcester ten metre line, but the conversion attempt was wide.
KC took the lead through a move, initiated by Rob Preston and then Scott Lovell burst through the Worcester defence to make a powerful run to score under the posts, Andy McLellan slotted the conversion over to give KC a 7-0 lead.
KC were under much pressure as the heavy Worcester pack began to impose themselves. Worcester then seized control of the game as they scored three similar tries from penalties, they kicked into touch in the KC 22 and winning their line out then crossed the line from a powerful rolling maul. This is a where the laws of rugby are flawed; as it can be impossible to stop rolling mauls from a heavy pack without conceding a penalty infringement.
Just before half time Worcester scored a fourth try from a line-out near the KC line to take the score to 7-26 at half time.
KC competed well in the second half as they tried to keep possession away from the Worcester pack. In a great team effort Rob Phillips, Andy McLellan, Scott Lovell and captain Tom Mayer were outstanding. Following good work in the Worcester half the KC backs produced a delightful move through several players and then a good break by Ryan Wainwright fed Ryan Tiene for a try in the right-hand corner.
KC efforts restricted Worcester to two further tries from their forwards in the second half. In the closing minutes more KC pressure provided a good break for Rob Phillips which looked as if it would yield a try, unfortunately the final pass would not stick.
Beaten by the better side on the day KC probably deserved to take more from the game than they did. Young players are really stepping up to the plate.
