The game began with pressure from Halesonians and after five minutes they were awarded a penalty, kicking for a line out and with a good move scored an unconverted try through their right wing.
In the exchanges for the next 15 minutes both sides had chances, probably Halesonians in the ascendency, however KC showed resolute defence against a physically bigger side.
Continuing the spirit they have shown all season, KC pressure on Halesonians line finally paid dividends with a penalty which was stroked over by Andy McLellan. KC then had a long period of continued pressure on the line and eventually a powerful driving maul yielded a try through Dave Kane. Andy McLellan with another good kick made the conversion to give KC a well-deserved 10-7 lead
Losing a prop to an injury at the beginning of the second half unbalanced the set scrum. Scrums then came under pressure giving Halesonians a succession of penalties. Despite the KC defence with some great tackling this led to two further converted tries for Halesonians. At this point they had a lead of 19-10 which would have been a fair reflection of the game. With the last move of the game and against the run of play Halesonians scored a converted try; taking the score to 26-10.
It was a good team performance, good efforts from the back row of Will Roff, Scott Lovell and the captain Tom Mayer. Particular praise for Mark James who was guesting for the first team from the Veterans. He played well, belying his age, at both full back, then scrum half after some injuries to other players.
At the end of the game you could see that the intensity of the KC effort had drained the players and unfortunately several players picked up injuries.
